At the age of 17, Ritchie Valens rose to fame in just eight months, going from being a relatively unknown member of a Mexican band in San Fernando, California, to being a key performer on a major rock tour in 1959. His debut album had recently been released, and his second single, "Donna/La Bamba," was a huge success, reaching Number Two on the national charts. However, tragedy struck on February 3, 1959, when Valens, along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, was killed in a plane crash that shocked the world.
